The world has lost some luster. Elaine T. Kershaw, of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017.

Elaine was born in 1933 in Grosse Pointe, MI to Alric Reginald Thomas ("Tommy") and Nell Mowry Burt (nee Micnewcius). She graduated from Mainland High School (homecoming queen, Most Popular, National Honor Society, Thespians Club) in 1951 and from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA in 1955 (Secretary-Treasurer, Kappa Kappa Gamma). She put her love of words and expansive vocabulary to work teaching English at Grosse Pointe High School.

In 1957 she returned to Ormond Beach to marry Albert M. "Boysie" Moore and start a family. As president of Osceola Elementary PTA, she led the transition to desegregation, confronting racism with aplomb. Her community service also included board membership of Oceanside Country Club and president of the Oceanside Women's Golf Association. She was a member of St. Brendan's, then St. Paul's, then Our Lady of Lourdes.

Returning to the workforce once her three children were in school, she built a successful professional career from the 1960s to the 80s, first as a respected travel agent then as the first director of community affairs for Burdines at Volusia Mall (now Macy's). There she developed memorable events such as the Fashion 500 featuring top NASCAR drivers like Richard Petty on the catwalk, and A Day in Great Britain with the London Symphony Orchestra.

Following retirement, she contributed her formidable gifts for organization, political action and fun to the Halifax River Yacht Club, Volusia County Women's Network, Halifax River Wine Club, Florida Women's Alliance and Panhellenic.

Elaine will be remembered for her lifelong love of animals; countless trips with family and friends; sunny days boating; her strong sense of justice; her themed parties that brought enjoyment to so many; her outlandish costumes and novelty sunglasses; loving devotion to her parents and steadfast support of her children and grandchildren; her trademark bright lipstick; and her knack for reminding all those around her what's really important in life. She was happiest enjoying the simple pleasure of late afternoon in a chair overlooking the river with a glass of wine in hand and her dog at her side.

Elaine was preceded in death by her second husband William R. Kershaw, her parents Tommy and Nell and her stepmother Ruth Brown Thomas. She is survived by her companion Bob Rickard, her three children, Mitchell Moore of Ormond Beach; Carol Moore of Atlanta; and Merry Ann Moore (Rob Corrigan) of Portland, OR; her grandchildren Sarah Moore of Denver and Drew Corrigan and Emily Corrigan of Sisters, OR; and her constant canine friend Bimini.
