Ed Wright, 68, of South Daytona Beach, FL passed away October 30, 2015. Ed was born November 1, 1946 in Miami, Florida to Catherine and Harold Wright. Ed graduated from Miami High School in 1965.
Ed attended the University of Alabama on a football scholarship where he played for Paul (Bear) Bryant. During his college football career, the Crimson Tide finished the 1966 season undefeated with a victory over Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl.
After college, Ed served as a police officer with the Miami Police Department. After years of service, Ed pursued his dream of starting his own business and opened up a convenience store. In 1980, Ed moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, where he was an owner/operator of a cross country tractor trailer.
Ed is survived by his wife and highschool sweetheart, Jean; his children, Amber and Joe Gallagher, Jennifer Wright Dowman, and Melanie Dabbe; and his grandchildren, Amanda, Joey, Olley, Rainey, Tosh, and Skylar.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Covenant United Methodist Church, 3701 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts in Ed's memory be given to the Covenant United Methodist Church.
