Edward C. Wiedemer, 89, of Daytona Beach, died Sunday, December 2 at La Poinciana Assisted Living Facility in Port Orange, FL. He was born in Louisville, KY and was one of six children born to Rose and Clarence Wiedemer. At age 14, he entered St. Meinred Benedictine Monastery. After 2 ½ years he realized this wasn't his calling and returned home. At age 18, he enlisted in the Army where he was selected for Army Intelligence. After four years as an enlisted man, and attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class, he applied and was accepted to Officers Candidate School. He was then commissioned as an officer and assigned to Arlington, VA where he met his wife, Nan. They were married in 1953, and were stationed in Japan, Germany and the Philippines. This afforded them the opportunity to travel the world. After retiring from the Army, he worked for 20 more years at the National Security Agency before retiring in 1989. He was a long time parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes and was a Third Degree Knight of Columbus. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nan (Panella) and four children, Thomas and Anne Marie Wiedemer of Centreville, VA, Donna and Michael Gorman of Annapolis, MD, Barbara and Paul Lynch of Milton, MA, and Larry and Sherry Wiedemer of Annapolis, MD. "Grandad" is survived by ten loving grandchildren who were the apple of his eye, Tom, Chad, Kevin, Kelly, Emily, Kathleen, Tim, Anna, Joe, and Mary Kate. Great grandfather to Holden, Hudson and Reagan. He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence Wiedemer and Rose (Stauble) Wiedemer and brother, Clarence Jr.; brother to Thomas Wiedemer, Theresa Kotheimer, Rita Stone all from Louisville KY and Brother Anthony (Bud) Wiedemer C.M. of Los Angeles, CA. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 from 5 –6 pm with a Catholic Vigil Service to follow at 6:00pm at Our Lady of Lourdes in Daytona Beach, FL. A Mass of Resurrection will be Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes in Daytona Beach, FL. Burial will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
