Edward S. Mitchell age 91 of Daytona Beach went to his heavenly reward on Wednesday July 7 2010. A Celebration of Live gathering will be held on Thursday July 15 2010 5-7pm at the chapel of Cardwell Funeral Home 3571 S. Ridgewood Ave Port Orange followed by a church service with military honors on Friday July 16 2010 10am at the Grace Episcopal Church 4110 S. Ridgewood Ave. Port Orange.
Edward was born in New Brunswick Canada son of Adam and Mary Jane (Phillips) Mitchell. A veteran of WWII he was a Master Sergeant with the Army Air Corps and served with the 67th Fighter Squadron in the Philippines. Edward and his first wife Helen (Gould) (who passed away in 1973) had two children David and Alison. In 1975 he remarried to Ruth Cumings and inherited three daughters. After retiring in 1981 Edward and Ruth moved from New Hampshire to Daytona Beach in 1983. Edward was a 32 Scottish Rite Mason member of the Corinthian Lodge No. 82 in Pittsfield NH; and a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was an avid bowler; enjoyed bird watching and stamp and coin collecting; and was a HAM Radio Operator. Edward will be missed for his great sense of humor and his compassion. He is preceded in death by his parents his first wife Helen and his siblings Rita Kaufman Alvin A. and Irving. Left to cherish their memories together are his wife Ruth; his children David (Linda) of Daytona Beach; Alison A. Erb of Farmington Maine; Deborah Fleming (David) of Daytona Beach; Louise Carter (Hugh) of Daytona Beach; and Martha Hongisto (Brad) of Keene NH; twelve Grandchildren; twelve Great Grandchildren; his brother Harold Mitchell (Shirley) of Daytona Beach; his sister Margaret Goodwin of Gainesville GA; and many cousins nieces and nephews.
