Edward W. McPadden, Jr., LTC USAR retired. Born April 24, 1930, passed away October 30, 2014. Graduated Fairfield University with a BS in pre-law 1952. He attended University of Connecticut and Boston College Law Schools 1952-1954. He married Margaret Collins on August 28, 1954.

He enlisted in the Connecticut National Guard upon graduation from Fairfield Prep in 1948. He received a direct commission in October 1952 and served as Gun Platoon Leader and Battery Commander of Battery A 1st MSL BN 192nd Arty, Milford Connecticut. This missile site was one of several National Guard units nationwide, integrated into the direct operational control of the United States Army Air Defense Command, providing air defense against possible attacks during the height of the cold war.

After serving in all command and staff positions, and after all NIKE Missile sites were deactivated in 1971 he was assigned to the 3220th US Army Garrison at West Palm Beach, FL. After serving as Personnel Officer he further served as Operations and Training Officer. In 1976 he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and assigned as Deputy Commander. In 1980 he was transferred to the Retired Reserve after 32 years of active and reserve service. He was a graduate of The Surface to Air Missile Officers Basic Course, and The Advanced Air Defense Missile Officers Course, Ft. Bliss, The Site Security School, Ft McClellan, The Senior Army Air Defense Command Maintenance Management Course, Red Stone Arsenal, The Civil Defense Management Course, University of Connecticut, 1970, The Command and General Command Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, KA.

In 1987 he and his son Tim formed McPadden Enterprises, Inc. and purchased the Subway Sandwich Shop in South Daytona. They opened the Subway Shop in Bellair Plaza in 1990 and the Subway Shop in WestPort Square in Port Orange in 1994. In March 1998 they sold the WestPort Square Shop and closed the corporation. Tim went to work with First Choice Mortgage, and Ed retired.

Retirement did not sit well with Ed, and in December 1998 he went to work for the City of Port Orange Police Department as a Community Service Officer, assigned to the Records Division, as Front Desk Officer. In May 2009, he retired again to care for his beloved wife of 55 years, Margaret. She passed away in August 2009.

Ed was also predeceased by his parents Edward Sr., and Wanda, his brothers John, Thomas, Paul Joseph, and son in law Richard Wintenburg. He is survived by his children Edward W. McPadden, III (Gail) of Ocala, Margaret Wintenburg of Port Orange, Patrick X. McPadden of Englewood, and Timothy McPadden (Lori) of Port Orange. Other survivors include grandchildren Megan Losito (Mike) of Bellview, Kelly McGowan (Jon) of Ocala, Adam Wintenburg (Stephanie) of Tampa, Amanda Wintenburg of San Francisco, Shannon McPadden of Orlando, Kathleen McPadden of Ocala, Shawn McPadden of Tallahassee; and great grandchildren, Aubrey and Caroline McGowan, Olivia and Michael John Losito, and Allison Wintenburg. He is also survived by his sister Mary Landry (Paul) and sisters in law Elaine, Emmy, and Jackie McPadden, brother in law Tim Collins, and several nieces and nephews, as well as a dear friend and caregiver Ethel Saxton.

Ed, being a friend of Bill's requests donations be made to the AA Intergroup of Volusia County. In hopes that the message be carried in his memory. There will be a visitation on Monday, November 3rd from 2PM-4PM, and 6PM-8PM at the Lohman Funeral Home of Port Orange 1201 Dunlawton Ave. Port Orange Fl, 32127. A mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday November 4th at 12:30PM at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church Port Orange Fl, 32129. Followed by full military honors.
