Edward Ernest Jones, 91, died at home in Ormond Beach on October 26 due to complications from Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia.
Ed was born on January 15, 1931, in Savannah, GA. His family moved to Detroit, Michigan for several years. At that time, he became an Eagle Scout. The family moved back to Savannah where he joined the ROTC and graduated from HS. Ed graduated from Clemson with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Ed met Laura Mae Rains in Atlanta, GA, and they married on September 10, 1955. After college, he fulfilled his commitment with ROTC and joined the Air Force where he and Laura were stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in Melbourne, FL in 1957. After serving 4 years, he joined General Electric for his entire career. Ed worked with NASA in Cape Canaveral and was affiliated with the Department of Defense projects as a tank and flight simulator installation project manager and traveled all over the world.
He was involved in many community service projects; most were through his church. Ed went on over 13 mission trips with the church, always being a servant to others. He was also an integral part of Boy Scout Troop 468 and the Central Council for over 40 years. He was the liaison for the Boy Scouts and Church for over 3 decades. Ed was a 32-degree Mason and was with Kiwanis International for many years. Ed lived a full life and enriched the lives of many others through his kindness and volunteerism.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Junie Viola and John Ernest Jones; brother Glen Jones Sr,; his spouse of 61 years, Laura Rains Jones; daughter-in-law, Carleen Mullen Jones. He is survived by his children, Michael, Mark, Roger, and Julie; daughter-in-laws and partner Alicia, Caroline, and Terri Franco; grandchildren Nicholas (Chelsea) and Kristen; and great grandchild Sofie Brooke.
A special thanks to Ed's many caregivers, but especially Ruthann Foley, Cynthia Jenkins, and Carleen Jaworski, who were devoted to providing him with excellent care and love.
Funeral services will be held at the 1st United Methodist Church, 336 S. Halifax Dr, Ormond Beach, 32176 on Friday November 4, 2022 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the church. A military and masonic burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Ormond Beach, FL.
