Edna S. Nicholson 82 of Port Orange passed away peacefully on Thursday May 20 2010. Edna was one of six daughters of Dwain and Christell Patton of Waynesville NC. She moved to the area in the early 50's when she married long-time Port Orange native Joseph Nicholson who preceded her in death in 1993. They had three children together. She proudly served the children of Port Orange as a school crossing guard from 1971 until her retirement in 1993. Some of her favorite pastimes were shopping and getting her hair done lunching and laughing with friends Leslie and Judy at the Olive Garden playing slot machines watching wrestling and cops on television and making family meals especially baking banana bread and fruit cake to share with family and friends at the holidays.
The Nicholson family wishes to express gratitude to those who cared for Edna. Especially Lynn Sylvester Nora Badie and the staff at the Hospice of Volusia Flagler Port Orange Care Center. Mrs. Nicholson lives on in the heart of her son Dwain and Yvette Scruggs of Waynesville NC; her daughter Christy Teele of Daytona Beach; her daughter Elizabeth Laberge of Merritt Island; her son Newton Nicholson of Port Orange; and her beloved granddaughter Kaleena Laberge of Merritt Island; her grandsons Dee Brian and Wally Scruggs; and many nieces and nephews. Edna is also loved and remembered always by her sisters Frances (Pat) Davin of South Daytona; Grace and David Mitchell; and Carolyn and Tommy Brooks all of Waynesville NC. A Funeral Service in her honor will be held on Wednesday May 26 2010 at 1:00 at Cardwell Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday May 25 2010 at Cardwell Funeral Home 3571 South Ridgewood Avenue Port Orange.
