Earl Harden 78 of Daytona Beach passed away June 6 2009 surrounded by his loving family after a brave battle with cancer. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday June 11th at 6:00 pm in the chapel of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona.
Earl was born May 13 1931 to Vernon and Barbara Harden in Dixon IL. Earl had a varied career including computer programmer electronic technician and draftsman. He retired in 1994 from the Technical Publications Department of General Electric Company.
Earl served his country in the US Air Force including a tour of duty at the early stages of Cape Canaveral. He enjoyed photography including managing his own dark room and gardening. Earl also enjoyed visiting casinos and according to his family "never met a stranger" and had a terrific sense of humor.
Earl and his wife of 54 years Nellie moved to Florida in 1961 from Illinois. In addition to her Earl is survived by his son Fred Harden of Daytona Beach and granddaughter Jolene Wilson. A daughter Nancy Wilson preceded Earl in death in 1993. Also surviving are Earl's siblings: brother John (Audrey) Harden and brother-in-law Lyle Wolber of IL; and sisters Mary Ellen Penkava Irene Thielen and Vera (Ron) Mennenga all of IL; A sister Lettie Wolber also preceded Earl in death.
