Dorothy Gail Hill, 82, of Debary / Deltona, Florida and formerly of Belleville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, in DeBary, Florida.

Dorothy was born on January 15, 1944, in Newark, New Jersey. She spent most of her life in Belleville before relocating to DeBary in 2023. Throughout her life, she was known by many names and filled many roles—Dorothy, “Dottie,” Mommy, Gram, Aunt Dot, and dear friend.

Dottie was a feisty, strong, and deeply caring woman who was always willing to lend a helping hand. She devoted many years as a stay-at-home mother to her two children before entering the workforce. She held various jobs over the years, including at Westinghouse in Newark, where she met her late husband, Arthur Hill. She later worked for many years at Walter Bauman Jewelers in West Orange, New Jersey, before finishing her career at Gilenson’s The Gas Grill Experts in Livingston, New Jersey, retiring in 2017.

She was predeceased by her parents, Morris Sloan and Vivian (née Mann) Sloan; her beloved husband, Arthur Hill; her former husband and dear friend, Clifford Rock; and her sister, Diane VanJones.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving children, Doreen (née Rock) Agosto, and Donald Rock and his wife, Rosa. She is also survived by her sisters, Barbara Brown and her husband Joseph (“Buddy”), and Janet Nau and her husband Jean. Dorothy’s legacy continues through her grandchildren, Matthew Agosto and his wife Lynn, Shiann Brooks, Crystal Cruz, and DJ Rock, as well as her great-grandsons, Raymond and Nicholas Agosto. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.

In her younger years, Dottie enjoyed bowling and playing bingo, and she had a special fondness for clowns, many of which filled her home. She was a member of the Colored Women’s Welfare Council in Belleville during the 1970s and later belonged to the Colonia Senior Citizen Club in Colonia, New Jersey, until her move to Florida. While she enjoyed simple pleasures, nothing brought her more happiness than her grandchildren and great-grandsons. Their smiles were her greatest joy, and she would do anything for them.

Dottie fought bravely for over two years, enduring constant pain and discomfort with strength and resilience. We find comfort in knowing that she is now free from pain and reunited with the loved ones who went before her.

It is now time for you to rest.

Beautiful lady, you will always be loved and deeply missed.
