Dorothy Jean Engel, 105, of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away in her home on August 23, 2026, with family by her side.

Dorothy was born on January 9, 1921, in Milton, Florida, to Jesse and Gertrude Pendelton. As a young woman, she attended secretarial school and later worked in several roles throughout her life, including Secretary, Real Estate Agent, and County Clerk. She carried herself with strong moral character, quiet determination, and a clear sense of her own way.

Her life changed in 1941 when she married the love of her life, Charles Engel. From that moment on, they were devoted partners. Dorothy moved with Charles wherever his career led, building a home and a life rooted in loyalty, commitment, and deep affection. Together they shared 69 years of marriage and raised two sons, Jack Kincaid and Ronald Engel.

Dorothy will be remembered for her love of family, friends, and animals, and for the spirited personality that made her unforgettable. In her later years, she enjoyed playing Bingo and spending time with her close friends in the Ormond Beach community. She often reminded those around her that “all we can do is our best,” a simple phrase that reflected her strength, her resilience, and her outlook on life. She also loved traveling with Charles—whether by travel trailer, motorhome, or cruise ship—and cherished the comfort of being together wherever life took them.

She is survived by her son Ron Engel and his wife Ann, and by her grandchildren Carol Love, Michael Kincaid, David Engel, Terri Engel, and Shauna Jacobs (Engel). She also leaves behind three great-grandchildren who brought her joy throughout her later years. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles, and her cherished son, Jack.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 17, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at Tomoka United Methodist Church, 1000 Old Tomoka Rd, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. All who knew Dorothy are warmly invited to honor her life. In lieu of flowers, gifts to the church are appreciated.
