Dorothy E. Daniels-Winfield 94 of Palm Coast Florida passed away January 20 2011 at Stuart F. Meyer Hospice Palm Coast FL. A Memorial Gathering will be held 11 am on February 4 2011 at the St. Thomas Church 5400 Belle Terre Parkway Palm Coast FL. Inurnment to immediately follow at the church. All arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Palm Coast 220 Palm Coast Parkway SW Palm Coast FL. Dorothy was born in Memphis Tennessee and lived in New York where she attended and graduated from Hunter College in three years at the age of 19. She went on to attend Brooklyn College earning two Master degrees and one Bachelor degree. Dorothy was employed as one of the first 10 police women in the NYPD. Dorothy worshiped at the church of the Resurrection Elmhurst NY and sang in the choir. She also earned the position to guard dignitaries such as the Queen of England and Eleanor Roosevelt. In her later years Dorothy was a teacher and guidance counselor for the board of education until her retirement and move to Palm Coast Florida several years ago. She was very involved in organizations such as AAUW Retired Educators Guardians NY Club Democratic party Democratic Women's club Episcopal women's church group NEFJA NAACP CHO and many more clubs and affiliations. She had a passion for education and children. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband William in 1997 brother Robert Henry Daniels Jr. and sisters Emily Bessie Catherine and Mildred. She is survived by her step-son Yul Windfield of Atlanta Georgia. Step-daughters Yvonne and her husband Leon Kendrick of FL Brenda Martin of NY Yvette Jackson of FL and Beryl Robinson of FL.She was also the loving Aunt to two nieces Courtney Chaplin of FL and Pamela Petties of NY and two nephews Richard and Robert Watkins both of NY.
