Dorothy Louise Moore Broadwater was born in Brooklet, Ga., on December 8, 1922 to Rufus and Ethel Moore. They moved to Daytona Beach, FL, in 1924. She attended North and South Ridgewood elementary schools and graduated from Mainland High School in 1940. She attended Florida State College for Women (now FSU) and graduated from Stetson University. She met her husband, John (Jack) Broadwater, while attending Mainland Junior High School. Together the couple had two daughters, Jacqueline B. McCormick (John) and Joanne B. Penny (Jerry).
Dorothy taught at Mainland Junior High School for 30 years-retiring in 1984. She was active in Central Baptist Church, where she sang with Jubilees and the choir. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority former member of Palmettes, Volusia Garden Club, Golden Girls, and the Flying Duchesses group of Red Hatters. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, reading, dancing, and traveling, but was happiest with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents husband Jack sister Ann Huggett daughter Jackie and brother-in-law Ernest Huggett. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Joanne and Jerry Penny son-in-law John McCormick grandchildren John Penny (Claudia) Scott Penny (Tracy) Michelle Johnson (Allan); great-grandchildren Brandon Murphy Matthew Penny Michael Penny Jordan Penny Parker Penny Alex Johnson Victoria Johnson Alicia Penny; nephews Gregory Huggett (Lesli) and Gary Huggett. She loved life and was especially grateful for her loving caring family and friends. Her church family was also very special.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 31st, between the hour of 6 and 8 p.m. at Lohman Funeral Home, 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach. Funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday, June 1st, at 10 a.m. at Central Baptist Church, 152 Fairview Ave. Daytona Beach.
