Dorothy Marie Bell (nee’Whiles) was born in Moberly, MO a century ago. She was raised by a very close knit family of grandparents and aunts who helped take care of her while her mother worked at the Buster Brown Shoe Factory. Her father left to find work as the Great Depression settled in. She was the youngest of 6 children. As a young woman she moved to Omaha, NE where she found work at Bell Telephone as a switchboard information telephone operator. She attended the wedding of one of her co-workers where she met the love of her life, Robert Bell, a WWII veteran serving in the US Air Force stationed at Offett AFB. They were married 6 months later. Together they had 6 children. As a military family they lived in many states and overseas including France and Germany. They finally moved to Port Orange, FL in 1992 and made this their permanent home and community. Dorothy loved living in Florida and the friends of all ages she made in Port Orange. She is survived by her six children Timothy, Carol, Patricia, Robert, Teresa (David Stephens) and Sean (Mary Ann) and her 4 grandsons (Taylor Bell, Robert Bell, Sean Stephens and Michael Bell). Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 21st at 8:30 am. Private family burial will take place on July 22nd.
