Obituary

Dorothy Estelle Axtell, 90, of Daytona Beach, FL passed away January 26, 2015 at home.

Dorothy was born and raised in New Jersey and lived there until her retirement when relocating and becoming a resident of Volusia County in 1982. Dorothy worked as a secretary for the FBI before becoming an executive secretary for a chemical company. Dorothy enjoyed traveling and, with husband of 67 years Arthur Chapman Axtell (deceased) visited all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada and Europe. She was also an avid reader and could often be seen with a book in her hand.

She was very active in the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women in her home church in Butler, NJ. Her church involvement continued with the First United Methodist Church, Ormond Beach, upon relocating to Florida. In addition, Dorothy was involved in many community organizations including being a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Dorothy is survived by her three sons; David and wife Janice, Craig and wife Kristine, and Brian and wife Pamela. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Holbrooks, who was her caregiver and special friend the last months of Dorothy's life. Dorothy also leaves six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one niece plus many other relatives and friends. One nephew preceded her in death.

A Service of Remembrance will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond, 733 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Inurnment will follow on Monday, March 9, at 1:00 p.m. at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts in Dorothy's memory may be given to the Halifax Health Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, Florida 32129, or on the web at www.hovf.org.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. Condolences may be shared with the family through this online guestbook.
