Dorothea E. Spence 84 of Palm Coast Florida passed away January 22 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family in Palm Coast FL. A Memorial Gathering will be held Friday January 28th from 10 am to the Memorial Service at 11 am at the Lohman Funeral Home Palm Coast 220 Palm Coast Parkway SW Palm Coast FL. Cremation to be private. Dorothea was born in Mertensdorf Germany to her parents Lutheran Pastor Fritz Radicke and Magdalena. She lived in Berlin Germany before moving to the States in 1950. She then lived in New York and Dayton Ohio. Subsequently they movd to Guam then the Washington D.C. area and retired to Palm Coast FL in 1985. During her earlier years Dorothea taught herself to speak fluent English German Russian and French. She worked as a translator for the Red Cross and as an accountant for as an accountant for a private hospital. Dorothea's real loves were the beach reading a good book and her family. She will be sorely missed by all that knew her. She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years Raymond of Palm Coast Florida daughter Patricia and her husband Pete Byers of Kingman Arizona; sons John Spence and his wife Melinda of West River Maryland; Donald Spence and his wife Denise of Ijamsville Maryland; and Orrin Spence and his wife Cathy of Brunswick Maryland. She was also the loving grandmother to five grandchildren and two great-grand children.
