Mrs. Doris E. Davis 86 Ormond Beach FL. passed away on Tuesday May 15 2007 at Ormond Memorial Hospital. "Dickie" as she was known by friends is survived by her daughters Kevin Davis and Lynda Wilson her sister Betty Owens and four grandchildren Jenna Wilson Tyra Roberson Josh Lanning and William Lanning all of whom will cherish her memory. Dickie was born November 3 1920 to Joseph Albert and Louise Dillman Williams. A graduate of Fort Pierce High School She attended Virginia Intermont Finishing School and then Stetson University where she graduated in 1942 with a major in English and a minor in Voice. While there she met William M. Davis who would become her husband for the next sixty one years. After graduating she worked as teacher for a short period and as a Newspaper Reporter in Savannah Georgia before continuing her teaching career at Eglin Air Force Base. Dickie was a master gardener who won many awards for gardening and flower arranging. Throughout her rich life she journeyed all over the world and her home artfully reflected her worldly travels. A fervent proponent of animal and environmental rights she was known for expressing her passionate support in letters to the editor and for religiously feeding her neighborhood squirrels every morning. Involved in cultural arts she supported the Choral Society Symphony Society and The Florida International Festival. She was a dedicated bridge player and was a member of a local garden club and bridge club. She had a gracious word for everyone.
