Donald Henry Washburn age 86 of Ormond-by- the- Sea passed away after a courageous fight with multiple heath problems on Saturday May 31 2008. A memorial service in his honor will be held Saturday 07 June 2008; 10AM at Union Congregational Church 1050 Daytona Ave. Holly Hill FL with Rev. Dr. Donald E. Steedly officiating. Interment will be in East Longmeadow MA. Mr. Washburn was born August 4 1921 in Springfield MA to Henry W. Washburn and Matilda Christison. He served as Staff Sergeant in the US Army Air Corp and was stationed in Kimbolton England with the 379th Heavy Bomb Group of B17s in Eight Air Force during WWII. He was pastmaster of his Masonic Lodge A Shriner and active member of the Congregational Church wherever he lived enjoyed traveling attending reunions of the 379th Bomb Group and was an avid dancer. He was a member of the Halifax Genealogy Society and the choir of the church. Making furniture for the family was his hobby but he was a plumber by trade and belonged to the Plumbers' and Pipe Fitters' Union for 61 years.

Donald was preceded in death by his late wife Margaret M. Lees his 8 1/2 year old son John Henry and many half siblings. He leaves behind 3 children Jane Washburn D. Neil Washburn and wife Pat and Marylee Mitchell and husband Vincent grandchildren Colin Sheehan son of John Sheehan and Jane Washburn Mark Steven and Marissa Washburn Vincent and Christine Mitchell his wife Ruth Blodgett and his daughters by marriage; Donna Utter and Diana Fisher along with many nieces and nephews.
