IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald Calvin
Riley
December 9, 1932 – July 25, 2025
Donald Calvin Riley, beloved father, grandfather, veteran, and FBI Special Agent, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2025, in Ormond Beach, Florida. He was 92 years old.
Born on December 9, 1932, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Don was one of eight children born to Eva and John Riley. From an early age, he embodied the values that would define his life: quiet strength, integrity, humility, and service.
Don proudly served in the United States Army, and began his law enforcement career with the Cincinnati Police Department. He was later appointed as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where he served for over 21 years. He received multiple commendations for outstanding service and leadership, and served as a SWAT team commander. His primary assignment was in Daytona Beach, Florida, and he and his family made Ormond Beach their home for the past 50 years.
After retiring from the FBI at age 55, Don continued his work in justice and public service as a private investigator and later as a fraud investigator for the Hotel and Motel Association in Orlando. He commuted for years and continued working until the age of 76.
At that point, Don made the decision to retire and return home full-time to care for his beloved wife, Gertrude "Gus" Riley, who was battling Alzheimer's disease. He devoted himself completely to her care during her final years. Gus preceded him in death in 2014, after 52 years of marriage.
Don was a man of deep principle and enduring character. He taught his children by example, showing them how to work hard, stand up straight, and do what's right. He had a gift for storytelling and a sense of humor that brought people together. He never missed an opportunity to share a lesson through a well-timed tale, and his warmth, wisdom, and charm left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
A devoted sports fan, Don loved the Cincinnati Reds and the Florida Gators, and was known for watching multiple games at once—stacking TVs on top of each other, popcorn in hand, completely immersed in the action. He loved the game, but even more, he loved the strategy, the tradition, and the stories.
He is survived by his children: Steve Riley (Kristen), Amy Garrett (Scott Garrett), Philip J. Riley (Tina), and Kim Bagley (Danny); and by his grandchildren: Samantha Riley, Ben Riley, Joe Riley, Sabrina Bagley, Danielle Bagley, Grace Riley, Mark Riley, Megan Bagley, and Ava Garrett.
His family is grateful for the love and support he showed them, and for the example he set as a man of courage, compassion, and deep responsibility.
A Visitation and Reception will be held on Friday, August 1st, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 12:30 p.m. at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond, 733 W Granada Blvd, Ormond Beach, FL. Don will be laid to rest at Daytona Memorial Park immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Don's legacy in the way he lived his life: with gratitude, service, and kindness. Whether by thanking someone in uniform, sharing a story, or helping a neighbor in need—do something good. Do it quietly. And mean it.
