Donald G. Ransom passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015. He was born in Buffalo, NY on March 13, 1924 to Frank H. Ransom and Geraldine Bullock Ransom. When he was seven years old, his family drove to New Jersey in a Model A Ford. A job was awaiting for his father and in 1931, if someone found a job, someone went there and took that job. His father worked there for 33 years.

Donald graduated from high school in Clifton, NJ in 1942, number two in his class. He then went to RPI in Troy, NY but was somewhat re-scheduled due to the war. He enlisted in the Army and had to report to the University of Alabama where he did basic training and was told he could keep taking his college engineering classes. Not long after that promise, he found himself in New Guinea where he and his engineering team worked on tanks, pipes, and pipelines. He then went to the Philippines after the US took them back. Following that, he was sent with many to Japan in anticipation of a difficult situation. He arrived in Japan before the final surrender. He was a modest man as were many of that "great generation" and did not talk much about his service to either friends or family, although he shared much with his grandson, Patrick.

He graduated from RPI in 1949, some three years after his original plan. In short order he married Margaret Alice Frankling and got a job with GE. That eventually brought him to Daytona Beach in 1963. He worked for GE there in relation to NASA's Apollo program. After a brief stint with GE in Washington, DC., he and his wife of 63 years managed with partners and then themselves the Jamaican Beach Motel in Ormond Beach.

For the last several years he has lived with new friends and the fabulous people at Riviera Senior Living in Holly Hill. The family thanks all at Riviera for their caring and friendship as well as the wonderful people at Florida Hospital and Hospice at Florida Hospital in Ormond Beach.

He is survived by his sons Marshall (Statesboro, GA), Bruce (Deland, FL), and Douglas (Wendy; Loveland, OH), as well as grandchildren Monica Pomroy (Jason; Las Vegas), Jeannette Remington (Ronny; Huntsville AL), Kendra Lewis (Chris; Deland, FL), Richie Ransom (Leigh; Ormond Beach, FL), Patrick Ransom (Port Orange, FL), and Maureen Ransom (Ormond Beach, FL), and five great grandchildren, with two more on the way.

There will be a memorial service at Riviera Senior Living on Tuesday, March 3 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to your favorite charity. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond.
