Donald Barclay Holton's Obituary
Donald Barclay Holton Sr. 82 of Ormond Beach FL passed away peacefully on Thursday May 31 2012 at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center Daytona Beach. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday; June 8 2012 at 11:00 a.m. St. James Episcopal Church Ormond Beach.
Don was born August 24 1929 in Orlando FL to Grover Barclay and Byron Olivia (Corley) Holton. He relocated to the Daytona Beach area in 1938 from Orlando. He attended Mainland High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He served honorably in WW II and the Korean police action. He then went on to graduate from Stetson University. Don was a longtime business and civic leader; he was President (owner) of Holton Volkswagen/Audi/Mazda. He served his community as President of the Daytona Beach Area Chamber of Commerce President of the Committee of 100 President of the Civic League of the Halifax Area Chairman of the Volusia County Industrial Development Authority Vice-President of the Isaac Walton League Director at the First National Bank President of the Mental Health Association of Volusia County President of the Daytona Beach New Car Dealers Association and the Gopher Swamp Gun Club among others.
Don enjoyed restoring and riding vintage motorcycles flying and restoring bi-planes bone fishing quail hunting reading history and had a love of motorsports in general having raced both motorcycles and sports cars. Don was a historian having studied the Civil War World Wars and Aviation History.
Don's greatest joy was his beloved wife of 56 years Gladys as well as his five children (and spouses): Janine (Jack) Peterson of Egg Harbor NJ; Amy (Tom) Westwood of Winter Garden FL; Donald (Julie) Barclay Holton Jr. of Longwood FL; Byron (Teresa) Holton of Clermont FL; and Jamie (Robyn) Holton of Mascotte FL; as well as fourteen grandchildren (Clay Megan (RJ) Matthew Savanna Madison Natalie Connor Thomas Molly John Analis Amy James and Olivia). He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marilyn Parker.
Memorial donations may be made to the Center for the Visually Impaired at 1187 Dunn Ave. Daytona Beach FL 32114.
