With great pride, admiration, and sadness, we share the news of the passing of Donald D. Gruber, affectionately known as Grampy, who departed from us on Monday, July 10, 2023, after a long and courageous battle in the hospital. He was a true patriot, a loving husband, a caring father, and devoted grandfather.

Born on May 11, 1936, in Buffalo, NY, SSGT. Gruber proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, receiving numerous commendations, including two Purple Hearts for injuries sustained in combat. His dedication to our country was unwavering, filling those who knew him with immense pride, as he selflessly fought for the values, he held dear and the freedoms we love.

Donald is survived by his loving daughter Charene Tse, her husband Quentin Tse, and his cherished granddaughters Kirsten and Chelsea Tse and Jessika (Chris) Crowley. Sisters Maureen Gruber, Paige Spiegel, along with nephews Junichi (Kayoko) Yokoyama and Masaru (Sachiko) Yokoyama, and devoted longtime friends Loren (April) Hamp, mourn his loss.

During his final days, the nursing staff at Select Specialty Hospital provided exceptional care, and our family is deeply grateful for their compassion and support. We will lay Donald to rest at Daytona Memorial Park, where he will find eternal peace. A funeral service to honor his memory will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona. Visitation will commence at 10:00 am, the service at 11:00 am, and the burial at 12:00 pm. Our chance to pay tribute to a brave, resilient, and loyal soul is forever etched in our hearts.

Reflecting on his life, his daughter, Charene, remembers him as a beacon of bravery, strength, and unwavering loyalty. He stood tall in the face of adversity and embraced his role as a protector with steadfast resolve.

Now, as he is laid to rest, it is time for Donald to find solace in the company of his beloved wife, Shinko Gruber, his brother David Gruber, and his parents, Charles and Irene Gruber, who preceded him in death. "Stand relieved, Semper Fi." Your legacy lives on, and your memory will forever inspire us to be courageous and steadfast in facing challenges. Rest in peace.
