Obituary

Donald Lee Chafins, 89 of Ormond Beach, passed away peacefully in his home, on Saturday February 23, 2019. Don is preceded in death by his wife Laura Mae Dalton Chafins, Parents John and Mona Chafins, Brothers Carlos and JC Chafins, Sisters Gladiola Maynard, Juanita Boyce and Phyllis Martin, and Granddaughter Amanda Rucker. He is survived by Children Diana (Steve) Cook and Rickey Chafins and Joy, Siblings Bobby Chafins (Joyce), Minerva Casto, Wanda (Jim) Taylor, and Linda (Howard) Hatmaker; Sister in Law Irene Chafins; Grandchildren Christie (Shawn) Halley, Ty (Allison) Cook, Michelle (David) Martinez, Shane (Leslie) Church, Bret Cook and Sarah, Regina (Chad) Dalton, and Kevin Chafins and Corey; Great-Grandchildren Justin (Ashley) Willis, Sydney Cook, Lauren Rucker, Harrison Cook, Austin Halley, Kadence Dalton, Ava Church, Katelyn Halley, McKenzie Dalton, Brandon Church, Colton Dalton, Connor Vanbrocklin, and Brayden Vanbrocklin; Great-Great-Grandchildren Paisley Willis and Emaleigh Willis, as well as many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law. Don was born in Long Branch, Kentucky on June 27, 1929. In 1949, Don was married to Laura Mae Dalton, the love of his life for 69 years. Together they managed Ford's Drive-In in Naugatuck, West Virginia. He was a 32 nd Degree Mason, Lodge #167 in Kermit, WV. After Don's retirement from coal mining in the mid 70s, the couple moved to Ormond Beach, Florida to live out the rest of their lives. Don always enjoyed going to the Flea Market and setting up his stand so he could sell his pots, pans and iron skillets. Both Don and Mae will always be remembered for their hospitality and the many things they did for their friends and family. Visiting hours will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 1, and the funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, at Lohman Funeral Home in Ormond Beach, followed by a graveside service at Hillside Cemetery, Ormond Beach. Reception at their Home (167 Benjamin Dr.) after service. Arrangements are under the care of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond Beach.
