Donald R. Brown 77 of Ponce Inlet died at his home on February 1 2008 with his wife Pat by his side. Born to the late Ray and Florence (Larson) Brown in Galesburg Illinois Don served in the U.S. Army after high school and shortly thereafter entered the telecommunications field. For the majority of his career Don was a dedicated employee and Board Director at Telephone & Data Systems (TDS) in Madison WI and Knoxville TN where he was well known for his strong work ethic - well as a "work-a-holic" actually! Besides traveling extensively in the U.S. and abroad he enjoyed hunting golf history and reading but most recently he loved gazing out at the beach activity in Ponce Inlet and at his Great Smoky Mountains in Maggie Valley NC. He leaves his wife of 34 years Patricia (nee Schattl); his daughters Kristine (Robert) Werner Diane (Michael) Brown Klitzke Julia (Knight) Blank and Lucille Brown; their mother Darlene Elizabeth Nelson; and his grandchildren Katrien and Daniel Werner Loren Watson and Jennifer Blank. He was preceded in death by his sisters Mary McGee and Dorothy Hatch in 2007. A memorial service will be held in Madison Wisconsin at a later date. The family requests that memorial donations be made in Don's name to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
