Don M. Cox, 84, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange. Don was born August 16, 1929, in Marietta, Ohio, to Harvey and Anna (Sprague) Cox. He served in the Ohio National Guard for eight years. He was a member of the Carpenters' Union and by trade worked in construction and served as manager and foreman on various jobs.
Don enjoyed the game of golf. He won numerous local tournaments in Ohio at Oxbow Golf Course, Marietta Country Club, St. Mary's Golf Course and in Florida at the Daytona Beach Golf Club, where he holds the course record. During his lifetime, he scored seven holes-in-one.
Don was known to his community as caring, helpful and a true gentleman. Survivors in Florida include his loving wife Mary R., Daytona Beach, and niece Ruth Stanley, Deland. In Ohio he is survived by twin brother Dale: sisters-in-law Jane and Ruth: nieces Debbie Calhoun (Greg), Sharon Hill (Dungan) and Martha; daughter, Kelly Faas (Paul); and three grandchildren, Caitlin, Heather, and Avery.
Don's life will be celebrated at the Club House Restaurant of Daytona Beach Golf Course to which family and friends will be invited. Funeral Services will be held in Marietta, Ohio, with family interment taking place at that time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia-Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, Florida 32129.
