Dianne Kalkman, age 79, of Deland, Florida

After a brief illness, Dianne Kalkman passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, February 22, 2023. Born in North Carolina, Dianne moved to Baltimore, Maryland a few weeks after her birth. She was raised by her parents Louis and Mayna Julian and grew up with two brothers, Louis and James and sister Carol. She attended Seton High School and also took a few courses at the University of Maryland while her husband attended the University. She was married to her loving husband for over 58 years and had three children, Karin Gable, Kraig Kalkman and Kelley Kalkman. She also had five grandchildren; Justin LeCompte, Kellie Gable, Ashley Gable, Troy Kalkman and Dylan Kalkman. She was further blessed with a great-grandson, Saunder LeCompte.

While living in Maryland, Dianne taught CCD classes at Our Lady of the Chesapeake, helped coach the Lake Shore cheerleading team and loved playing the guitar. She decided to become a barber when the children were young and although she earned the achievement of being a Master Barber, she preferred to be called a stylist. She had an overflowing clientele who all loved her both as a person and for her hair cutting abilities.

Dianne began painting with oils, water colors and acrylic in her early 20's. She had a phenomenal talent that lead her to become a professional artist. She was proficient at landscapes, portraits, water scenes, flowers and still life paintings. She won many awards for her paintings during her lifetime and showed, as well as sold, her art at local shows throughout Maryland.

Dianne and her husband loved water activities and owned several boats and waterfront homes while living in Maryland. Her favorite home was on a point of land on the Chesapeake Bay where she loved to fish off the pier. She also secured a 50 pot crab license and loved to catch and steam blue crabs. Dianne and her husband were also members of Bodkin Yacht Club and Ventnor Yacht Club while living in Maryland.

In 2004, she moved to Central Florida and periodically had homes in Daytona Beach and in Deland. Prior to her death she moved from her ocean front condo in Daytona Beach Shores back to her favorite small town of Deland where she enjoyed the various festivals, restaurants and other activities.

Dianne had a great, outgoing personality, was also a superb cook and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be sorely missed, but always present in our thoughts, hearts and prayers.
