Obituary

Derek Michael DeAnda, 23, of Port Orange Florida, born on August 26, 1991, formerly of Davenport Iowa, son of David and Amy DeAnda, Sr., and Victoria & Deric Jacobs, passed away unexpectedly on February 2nd, 2015. A visitation for family and friends will take place Thursday, February 5, 2015 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Lohman Funeral Home, Port Orange with the prayer service to be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral and burial services are pending with Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport, IA.

Derek was born in Tacoma, Washington and raised in Davenport Iowa. In 2003, he moved to Port Orange, Florida. Derek had an infectious smile and was always willing to help someone in need and loved to be around family. Derek pursued many passions throughout his life including, baseball, football, riding his motorcycle, and hanging out with his very close-knit group of friends that meant the world to him. Derek was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Tennessee Titan fan, and he was devoted to the love of his life, Mariah and their dog Harley.

Derek fell in love with the art of Muay Thai at the age of 16 and became an amateur fighter, held 3 state title championships, and eventually turned Pro, winning his first professional fight on April of 2014. Derek trained and fought across the U.S., Canada, Barbados, and Thailand. He dedicated his life to teaching the art of Muay Thai, and was a mentor and teammate for the Elite Muay Thai Team in Port Orange FL. He was loved and greatly respected throughout the Muay Thai community all over the world and will be missed and remembered forever as a champion.

Derek is survived by his mother and stepfather - Deric and Victoria Jacobs of Port Orange FL; father and stepmother - David and Amy DeAnda Sr. of Davenport IA; brother - David DeAnda Jr., his fiance, Hope and their newborn daughter Meilani Jade DeAnda of Port Orange FL; sisters Devin DeAnda of Davenport IA and Kristina Jacobs of Port Orange FL; stepsiblings Teddy and Stephanie Bennett of Davenport IA; Grandmother, Sharon Lawrence of Davenport Iowa, and longtime girlfriend Mariah Correia, of Port Orange FL and numerous beloved Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Derek was preceded in death by his Grandfathers, Jesse Castel Jr. and Harry Lawrence Sr.; Grandmother Consuelo DeAnda; Uncles Harry Lawrence Jr. and Richard (Popo) Castel; and Cousin Nathan Sierra.
