Denise ("Dee") A. Jemmott Brady, 69, passed away at her home in Daytona Beach on 10/4/19 after a long, courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on January 3, 1950 in New York to John Henry Jemmott and Catherine Woods-Jemmott.  Dee grew up in New York, where she attended St. Agnes Academic School and then Brooklyn College at CUNY, graduating with a BA in Fine Arts. Her intellectual curiosity continued throughout her life. She studied music, architecture, humanities studies and legal skills and picked up many certifications along the way. In the last two years, she had taken online courses from Boston University and Harvard in genealogy and philosophy, respectively. At the time of her death, Dee was completing a course at the Julliard School of Music. She never stopped wanting to learn. Dee worked at Columbia University and the YMCA for many years, moving on to management and paralegal work. She authored a book while living in France for a year before moving to Emerald Island, NC for the next 16 years. While living in North Carolina, Dee enjoyed work as an editor/writer, researcher, and reporter for several local newspapers and NC coastal publications.  Her enduring passion was music. An accomplished pianist, Dee often treated houseguests to a sample of her talent at the piano. She also enjoyed architectural design, photographic preservation, surf-casting, boating, golf, and acting as personal historian, recording and transcribing biographies and personal memories. Dee's can-do attitude, combined with a drop of humor, showed in every challenge she faced. As a long-term resident of North Carolina's Outer Banks and then the east coast of Florida, Dee pronounced herself uniquely skilled in how to survive a hurricane, having lived through a dozen of them. While living on Emerald Island, the Brady household was often visited by a large family of raccoons. Rather than find a way to eliminate the problem, Dee and Mike chose to embrace it by providing feeding the raccoons with dog food. The dinner guests gradually grew to include deer, fox, and opossum. While bravely facing her seemingly endless medical treatments, Dee found a way to laugh with her friends and find joy and comfort in her devoted husband. She worked with the Dartmouth University support group for ovarian cancer patients for five years, and developed many friendships in the group.  Dee is predeceased by her parents, and her cherished cat Joe, who lived to be 19 years old. She leaves her beloved husband, Mike, brother Thomas and family, and an untold number of friends who will remember her as an intelligent, thoughtful, amazing person.  Her grace, kindness and sense of humor, which never faltered even during her prolonged illness, touched all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed.
