A Mass of Christian Burial for Deacon Vernon Hart 71 who passed away peacefully on February 10 2012 will be held Tuesday February 14th at 9:00am at the Basilica of St. Paul Catholic Church with a reception to follow in the Mullally Fellowship Hall. His family will receive friends at a visitation also at the Basilica of St. Paul on Monday February 13th from 6:00-8:00pm with a vigil service beginning at 8:00pm.
Vernon was born on February 10 1941 in Cienfuegos Cuba and with the help of his parents he fled Cuba and moved to New York as a teenager in 1957. When his parents and brothers were able to come to the US he relocated to Chicago IL to join them. He worked as a tradesman and was a devoted husband and father. He and his wife diligently worked hard to provide for their family. After the passing of his wife of 24 years Mary Lou he pursued his devotion to his Catholic faith as well as his commitment to helping others and became a deacon. He moved to Daytona Beach FL in 2005 where he found his new parish family at the Basilica of St. Paul. Deacon Vernon was known for his beautiful garden and "green thumb" his love of his ministry and his giving nature. He was the consummate husband father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Deacon Vernon is survived by his four children Angela (Tom) Donovan Nicole (Rene) Xicotencatl Heather (Jerry) Lee and Vernon Hart; his five grandchildren Tom Allison and Luke Donovan Brittany and Marrisa Xicotencatl; his three brothers Jerry (Katie) Hart Nelson (Theresa) Hart and Clay (Toni) Hart; his nieces and nephews and his loyal canine's Maggie and Buffy.
