David E. Walters Sr. 84 a long-time resident of the Ormond Beach area passed away March 10 2010. He was born on June 20 1925 in Bronxville NY and attended high school in Manhasset NY. He received his 3rd Mate Oceans License with unlimited tonnage from NY Maritime College at Fort Schuyler and began sailing for Mor Mac Lines in the Merchant Marine. David received an honorable discharge from both the U.S Coast Guard and the U.S Navy. He spent most of his career employed with Nicholson and Galloway in Glen Head NY a roofing and restoration company where he retired as Vice President before moving to the Ormond Beach area in 1982. David was a past President of the Parents Association at Fort Schuyler and continued to be an integral part of the Alumni Association throughout the years. After retirement he and his wife Jean to whom he was married 48 years dedicated most of their free time to either volunteering at the church feeding the homeless or volunteering at Memorial Hospital in Ormond which they did for 11 years. David was quick witted with a sly sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time on his computer watching NASCAR racing and Bible study however his greatest passion was his family. He blessed his family with his compassion selfless giving loyalty and dedication to their well being. He will be dearly missed by all who had the opportunity to know him. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jean; daughter Delia Walters Pellegrino and her husband Frank of Spartanburg SC; sons David E. Walters Jr. and his wife Jill of Marlton NJ Stephen Walters and his wife Margaret from Lakewood CO; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 13 2010 at 10:00am at Lohman Funeral Home 1423 Bellevue Avenue Daytona Beach FL; Pastor Dennis Kiggins officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to The Youth Program at Christ Community Church in Daytona.
