David Laurence Turley, 81, of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at FL Hospital Memorial Medical Care Center, Daytona Beach.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Saturday, December 7th at 10:30 a.m. at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond; 733 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Dave was born July 19, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts, to Thomas and Winifred (Davidson) Turley. After graduating from Belmont Hill School and studying at Holy Cross, he went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He then worked in public relations with Eastern Gas in Boston, where he met his wife of nearly 50 years, Marilyn. Other important career moves in his life included executive roles in public relations/ advertising at New England Gas and Electric, Florida Gas, and Robinson, Yesawich & Pepperdine in Orlando. He was an accomplished golfer, a huge Boston sports fan, an avid reader, and a great storyteller. He enjoyed traveling the world, especially to Denmark to visit his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: Sandra Marie Thorhauge and husband Palle Lund of Vojens, Denmark; Gail Grace "Gigi" and husband Michael Speltz, of Orlando, FL; and David Turley and his wife, Kimberly, of Orlando, FL. He is also lovingly remembered by his two brothers, Leo Turley and his wife, Pat, of Glens Falls, NY and Brian Turley of Melrose, MA, as well as his three grandchildren, Tanya Speltz, Mia Thorhauge, and Emma Thorhauge and his great-granddaughter, Lauren.
He will also be remembered by his many lifelong friends and those he met in the past ten years at Halifax Plantation, especially his close companion, Annette Kirson.
