David Paul McKaig
November 7, 1961 – June 27, 2025
Flagler Beach, FL
David Paul McKaig, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, surrounded by close family and friends at the age of 63. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 7, 1961, David spent much of his life in Flagler Beach, Florida, where he was known for his kindness, strength, and wisdom.
David was a devoted and loving father to his three children: Serra McKaig and her partner Tucker Lewis, and their son, Jac David Lewis; Steven McKaig and his partner Logan Van Fossan, and their daughter, Scout Haze McKaig; and Jesse Piccolo and his wife Kelsea Piccolo, and their daughters, Aubrey Ann, Riley Lee, and Harper Elizabeth Piccolo. He was a cherished grandfather who adored his grandchildren and was a guiding presence in their lives.
David's legacy is one of resilience, service, and unwavering faith. He was both mentally and physically strong—qualities that shaped how he approached every challenge and inspired those around him. He served with distinction in the United States Navy as an Operations Specialist and Navy EOD Assistant, specializing in scuba diving and chemical-biological warfare. His military career not only honed his strength but also his leadership, discipline, and commitment to serving others. He was proud of his service, and his family takes comfort knowing he led with honor and purpose.
David lived fully and simply, finding joy in long walks, swimming, yoga, and weekend camping trips. He loved to travel—especially if it meant time with family or the peaceful company of his dogs. He never needed much—just nature, connection, and the people he loved. He had a soft spot for tacos and ice cream, which he never turned down and often turned into a reason to gather with loved ones. He had a way of showing up when you needed him most, without asking for anything in return.
A man of unwavering faith, David led with quiet strength and compassion. He offered wisdom without judgment, comfort without condition, and stood as a steady presence to those navigating life's most difficult moments. His generosity, resilience, and enduring spirit left an indelible mark on everyone privileged to know him.
David is also survived by his siblings: sister Sandy DiGiacomo and her husband Joe, sister Susan Hersh, and brother Chandler McKaig, along with many other family members and friends who will miss him deeply.
