A Funeral Service with Military Honors for Commander David W. Knoll USN RET. 78 of Daytona Beach who passed away Tuesday October 7 2008 at Florida Hospital-Ormond will be held on Monday October 13 2008 at 1:00 pm at Lohman Funeral Home 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach FL with Reverend Charles D. Melvin Pastor of the Ormond Beach Union Church officiating. Mr. Knoll was born in Dubuque Iowa and resided in Illinois Indiana Ohio Ft. Lauderdale and California before relocating to Volusia County. He was a Korean and Vietnam Navy veteran serving active duty from 1952-1956 + 26 years Naval Reserve retiring as Commander USN. He graduated from Purdue University completed his Graduate work from Ohio State University George-August University - Max Planck Institute Goettingen Germany PhD Candidate Physics. He retired form Hughes Aircraft in 1989 as Lab Manager for the Image Processing Lab Electro-Optics and Data Systems Division El Segundo CA. He was a member of the Navy League Military Officers Association of America Korean War Veterans Association; he enjoyed golfing sailing and traveling the world. David is survived by his wife Betty Knoll step-children Gail Fritz Mike Lakin four step-grandchildren Ashley Lakin Casey Lakin Justin Fritz Lauren Fritz a step-great-grandchild Tinsley Lakin Brownlee his brother Christian Knoll four nieces Cynthia Dowdy Cheryl Alicea Cathi Iriarte Courtney Riley and numerous cousins. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hillside College Hillside Michigan or the Lymphoma Research Foundation and or the American Heart Association.
