David "Jack" Downs, 70, of Ormond Beach, Florida was called home by our Lord on Saturday, September 6, 2014 following a brief illness. A visitation will be held between the hours of 1:00 P.M. and 2:00 P.M., on Friday, September 12, 2014, at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona, 1423 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114. The Chapel service will begin at 2:00 P.M., with a private burial immediately following at Daytona Memorial Park. The son of the late Jeffery and Betty Downs, Jack was born in Norfolk, VA on April 12, 1944 but was considered lifelong resident of the Daytona area. After graduating from the Old Mainland High School in 1963, he attended Florida State University, graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor's degree in Business. After working in business for 20 years he returned to school and graduated from UCF with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. He was a devoted school teacher for Volusia County School Board for 20 years. Jack was an active member of Tomoka Christian Church. He leaves behind his loyal companions, dogs Jessey & Jody , his brother Jeffery, nephews James, Christopher & Christian, niece Chelsea, Aunt Bernice Canup, many cousins, extended family and many close friends.
