David A. Ford, 66 of Spruce Creek Fly In, Port Orange, Florida and Piseco, New York, passed away February 22, 2015 at Halifax-Hospice in Port Orange with his loving family by his side. A memorial celebration will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 5-7pm with a brief service to follow at 7pm at Lohman Funeral Home in Port Orange. A Memorial Service will be held in Piseco, New York this summer at the family plot in Higgins Bay.

David was born July 28, 1948 to James E. and Barbara Brink Ford at Sussex Hospital New Jersey. He grew up in Westtown and Piseco, New York. He completed high school in Little Falls, N.Y. and graduated from Morrisville College in New York with a degree in park management. David enlisted in the United States Army on January 2, 1969 and was honorably discharged on December 10, 1970. David worked for the Department of Forestry in Utah. For many years he spent summers in Piseco and winters traveling in Florida. He worked at service stations in Fort Myers Beach. He also made palm hats and sand candles on the beach in Naples.

David traveled extensively in the United States in his station wagon and backpacked throughout Europe. On August 10, 1976, he married his best friend, love, and caregiver, Judy. He owned and operated Halfmoon Beach on Piseco Lake, New York, a seasonal mobile home park and cottages from 1975-2006. For many years David was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper in the Adirondack Mountains, NY. David and his wife Judy traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada in their RV.

In 1995, they bought a home on Farmbrook Road in Port Orange, and then built their home in The Spruce Creek Fly In in 2001. He was a private pilot and had his float plane certification and owned several planes. His last plane was a Jabiru light sport plane. He had a fast formation card/wingman and flew with the Gaggle-Lakes/Goofy Flight at the Spruce Creek Fly In.

He is a member of the AOPA and The EAA. David was an active member of South Daytona R/C model yacht club and the Smyrna model yacht club. David was a member of the Piseco Volunteer Fire Department, where he retired as Assistant Chief. He was a life member of the NRA and a prior chairman of the assessment review board in Piseco N.Y. He was an active member of the Piseco Yacht Club sailing a 16' Hobie Cat and won numerous first place awards. He was a member of the Lake Pleasant Methodist Church, Lake Pleasant N.Y.

David loved to travel and ride his Harley. He will be remembered by many friends for his love of living life to the fullest and enjoying every moment.

David was predeceased by his father Jim and a niece Judy Lee Ann. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judy, his son, Keith {Mary} of Piseco, mother Barbara Ford, brothers Ken and Steven Ford of Albany, NY, sister Linda Ford {Phil Ferguson} of Poestenkill NY, brother in-laws Jim {Cindy} Bernier of Port Orange and Piseco, Lee{Linda} Bernier of Corpus Christi Texas, nephew: Jamie, niece: Lesley{Andrew}, nephew: Wayne {Stephanie}, nephew: Jim{Debbie}, nieces Crystal and April {Larry}, nephew: Tyler, nieces: Tasia and Tegan {Eric}, nephew: Aaron {Amy}, nephew: Zachary, nieces: Zoe and Rylee, also many great nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks a donation be made in David's name to the Vaculitis Foundation, P.O. Box 28660, Kansas City, MO 64188; or to Halifax Health-Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange.
