DAVID W. CUNDY

David W. Cundy, age 96 died Thursday, September 21, 2023 in Ormond Beach, FL.  Born March 30, 1927 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Edward & Beatrice Cundy.  He was a Veteran of World War II obtaining the rank of Sergeant.  After being discharged from the service, he went with the Delaval Separator and then joined the city of Poughkeepsie Police Department as a Motorcycle Officer in 1948. He left there in 1958 and joined the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Dept. which was just organizing. He worked up thru the ranks to Chief of Police.  He left in January 1979 and went to the Dutchess County Sheriff's Department as Undersheriff. He retired in October 1993 after 45 years as a Police Officer.  After his retirement, he moved to Florida where he made his home.  He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Daytona Beach, FL. He was a Graduate of the New York State Police School in 1959 and the FBI National Academy in 1973.  He was a avid motorcyclist and a Life Member of the American Motorcycle Association, Life Member of the Blue Knights, Life Member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association.  He also was a Life Member of the New York State Chiefs of Police, and a Member of the Retired Police Association State of NY, FBI National Associates and many other Police organizations.

Mr. Cundy was also a member of Poughkeepsie Lodge 266 F&AM, Cyprus Shriners, Zangi Grotto, Daytona Beach,  American Legion Post 0267, Elks Club & Moose Club in Ormond Beach, Florida.  Mr. Cundy was predeceased by his loving wife of 69 years, Evelyn; Survived by several nieces & nephews; a close "adopted" daughter, Kathy (John) and her daughters, Jennifer & Colleen Docherty; step-daughter, Sandra Rice of CT ;  and especially his "great-grandson", Jase.
