DAVID BLACK 93, was born on May 21, 1929 to his parents, Ethel Harris Black and Leonard Black in Newark, New Jersey.

He attended public schools in Newark NJ and after graduating high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served for 26 years, serving 2 years in The Vietnam War and 1 year in The Korean War.

His career started in Ft Dix, NJ then on to Germany for 5 years and to France.  He retired and chose to live the next 40 years in Germany until he returned to the US approximately 12 years ago to be with family until his death.

David was awarded numerous certificates of achievement including Meritorious Service as Encoding NCO (Materiel Command, Europe); Freedom Team Salute for outstanding service to the Nation as a US Army Soldier; Certificate of Recognition of service during the period of the Cold War (2 September 1945-26 December 1991) in promoting peace and stability for this Nation and from United States Army Europe, 4th Logistical Command to Staff Sergeant E-6 David Black RA 51 030 818 for outstanding service as Installation Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, US Army Depot Activity, Perigueux, APO 257, US Forces, 15 January 1963 to 30 September 1963.

David was an avid Chess Player, Checkers, watching news on MSNBC, driving a Mercedes car and playing piano by ear were his other enjoyments.

He was preceded in death by his caring brother Mitchell Black and leaves to cherish his memory, his youngest brother, Nathaniel Black, Ormond Beach, FL; his devoted sister-in-law, Jewel Black, Ormond Beach, FL, niece, Cheryl Michele Black, Palm Coast, FL, nephew (namesake) David Black (Cathy), Livingston, NJ; great niece, Melody Dotson and her children Imani, Jada and John Dotson, Palm Coast, FL who were his surrogate children; great nephew, Quincy Black, Palm Coast, FL; goddaughter Cheryl Cope, Burlington, NJ, many relatives, friends and neighbors who will remember him with warm thoughts.
