IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Consuelo Camu
Santelices
August 9, 1921 – March 11, 2024
Consuelo Camu Santelices, 102, of Palm Coast, Florida passed away peacefully Monday, March 11, 2024. She was born on August 9, 1921 in San Andres, Catanduanes, Philippines where she graduated from San Andres High School and later earned her teaching degree in Legaspi, Albay, Philippines. She became a grade-school teacher and later worked for the Library of Congress in the Philippines. In 1976 she immigrated to the United States, joining her sister, Sally Siroy and brother-in-law, Dr. Edwin Siroy and soon to be born Alan Siroy (born in 1978) in Shelbyville, Illinois. Consuelo was fondly called by many friends as "Manay Connie." She remained single all of her life and was truly proud of it, later jokingly attributing her extraordinary health and longevity to the lack of a spouse. She kept her mind active by solving puzzles, word searches, and she was a master mahjong player and often taught her many friends, including her brother-in-law's many physician friends, how to play the intricate game. She was active, enjoying activities like gardening, socializing with friends, dancing, and shopping. She also enjoyed traveling to Europe, home, to the Philippines and cruises. She was a member of "CIPAS" Central Illinois Philippine American Society and the "PAAPC" Philippine American Association of Palm Coast. She was a sponsor to many charitable organizations in the United States and the Philippines.
Consuelo is survived by her sister, Belen Santelices Red; sister, Salome "Sally" Siroy (husband, Edwin Siroy); numerous nieces and nephews, including Dr. Alan Siroy; and other extended family and friends.
