IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Conrad Rowland
Hoffman, Sr.
April 8, 1931 – April 28, 2024
Conrad R. Hoffman, Sr. of Palm Coast, Florida followed his wife, Mary, on the A-train to heaven on April 28, 2024 at the age of 93.
Growing up in Glens Falls NY, he attended Glens Falls High School, graduating in 1949. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from the Thomas S. Clarkson Memorial College of Technology in 1953. He was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He joined the National Carbon Company (now Union Carbide) as an engineer, with a two year break to serve in the Army during the Korean conflict. He advanced to Plant Manager in Bennington, Vermont, and then went on to become Regional Manager for Latin America, retiring in 1986.
Conrad had broad interests and today might be referred to as a "maker", building his first ham radio equipment from scratch. A lifelong ham, W8MHH, he enjoyed Sunday morning chats with people all over the world. Alas, his interest waned when he had outlived all his regular contacts. Another passion, piloting light aircraft for 45 years, including giving instrument instruction. Conrad was an excellent woodworker, doing much of the construction on their vacation home in Maine. He built and finished all the cabinetry in a traditional Maine style. The property was on the ocean and he enjoyed sailing his small sailboat in the bay. He became an early enthusiast of home computers which facilitated his genealogy research and the writing of three adventure novels. He loved a series of large, shaggy dogs. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Predeceased by his parents, Ethel and Conrad Hoffman, his brother, Robert Hoffman, and his wife of 67 years, Mary Clarissa Rose Hoffman. He is survived by his son, Conrad R. Hoffman and his wife, Jeanne, and by his daughter, Robin Lacey, husband, Richard, and their children, Duncan and Sophie, plus numerous cousins.
His ashes are interred with Mary's at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
