Obituary

In Loving Memory of Coleman F. McDonough, Jr.

October 7, 1959 – April 17, 2025

Coleman F. McDonough, Jr., 65, passed away unexpectedly on April 17, 2025, in Altoona, Florida. He was born on October 7, 1959, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Coleman leaves behind his loving wife of 42 years, Carol McDonough of St. Mary's, GA; their son, Mike McDonough; daughter-in-law, Eliza; and his beloved granddaughter, Marigold, all of Somerville, MA. He is also survived by mother, Lois McDonough; sisters, Sandy McDonough and Diane McDonough of Ormond Beach, FL; and brother, Charlie McDonough, (Stacy) of Tulsa, OK. Coleman was a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews who adored him. He was predeceased by his father, Coleman F. McDonough, Sr., and his sister, Dawn McDonough, both of Ormond Beach, FL.

Coleman lived a life rooted in curiosity, kindness, and an enduring sense of humor. He graduated from Embry-Riddle University in 1983 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering and spent 36 years at Pratt & Whitney, where his work and mentorship left a lasting impression. He retired in 2019, but his legacy in the field—and in the hearts of those he worked with—endures.

Coleman was the kind of man who left a mark without needing to be the loudest in the room. He had a sharp wit and a signature sarcasm that made everyone laugh—but even more memorable was his generosity, his patience, and the way he made people feel truly seen and heard. Coleman made friends everywhere he went.

He was our hero and our rock. His siblings looked up to him not just as a brother, but as a role model and friend. His sister Sandy often said, "Coleman is the coolest person I've ever met," a sentiment echoed by all who knew him. As kids, he was the prankster who filled their lives with mischief and laughter—stories too numerous to list, but all cherished deeply.

More than anything, Coleman was a family man. He adored his granddaughter, Marigold, and cherished being her Papa. Spending time with her and the rest of his family was what he treasured most. Coleman loved family vacations hiking in the mountains, hanging out at the lake, following his favorite sports teams, retirement, and a good Publix BOGO.

A private family celebration of life will be held in the coming days. Though we grieve, we are grateful—grateful for the time we had, the love we shared, and the example Coleman gave us of how to live with grace, humor, and heart.

Rest easy, Coleman. You were deeply loved, and you will be forever missed.
