Colonel Robert G. Osborne

Palm Coast – Col. Robert G. Osborne, 73, of Palm Coast, Florida passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 19, 1946 in Lexington, Kentucky. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert T. and Thelma Mae (Charles) Osborne and his brother, Charles F. Osborne.

Robert served his country as a Communication Officer in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of Colonel. In addition to being based in Georgia at Fort Gordon, Robert was deployed overseas to Vietnam and Germany during his military career. Colonel Osborne received numerous awards and honors including the Vietnam Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Legion of Merit Medal, and a Bronze Star. After he retired from the U.S. Army, Robert moved to Palm Coast, Florida and commenced his teaching career. Robert taught at the Buddy Taylor Middle School in Palm Coast. He loved teaching his students and providing guidance to our future leaders. Robert was honored as the 'Teacher of the Year' in 2002 at Buddy Taylor Middle School.

Robert had a love for golf and enjoyed Sundays on the golf course with friends. He also shared his love of golf with his students and received the Flagler Palm Coast High School Athletic Award in 1996 for his contribution to girls' golf. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and also a member of the Palm Coast Elks Lodge # 2709 where he was recognized as the 'Elk of the Year' in 2006.

Robert is survived by his wife, Debra Lynn Osborne; daughter Melissa Valendo and her husband Michael of New Jersey; son Erik Christensen Jr. and his wife Remirs of New Jersey; son Bryan Christensen and his wife Kaycee of Florida; daughter Lisa Lucas and her husband Keith of Kentucky; son Kirk Lake and his wife Carey of Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn Valendo, Kristen Valendo, Arianna Christensen, Jayden Christensen, Jordan Christensen, Amanda Miller and husband Anthony and Christina Lucas Young; three great-grandchildren, Kember Tims, Keith Miller and Connor Miller; his aunt Charlotte 'Sue' Charles of Kentucky; and cousins Geoffrey and Geof Reed of Kentucky.

A private funeral will be held at The Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky. Arrangements are under the care of Lohman Funeral Home, Palm Coast, Florida. Donations in Robert's memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Disabled American Veterans.
