Clayton W. Harpster 75 passed away peacefully Monday September 17 2007 at the Port Orange Hospice Care Facility. He is survived by his two brothers Wallace J. Harpster of Ormond Beach and Fred M. Harpster of Daytona Beach and 3 nieces and 1 nephew.
Clayton was born in Elyria Ohio on June 21 1932 and moved to the Daytona Beach area in 1941. He graduated from Seabreeze High School in 1951 and attended the University of Florida. He worked as a Financial Services Advisor for 48 years until his retirement in 2004.
Clayton was very active in the community; he was a member of Seabreeze United Church Honorary Lifetime Member of the Daytona Beach Aero Club and the Florida Aero Club Charter member of the Sunset Lions Club Endowment member of the Museum of Arts and Sciences as well as a member of the Halifax Historical Society. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid gardener he almost always had a boat and loved to sport fish enjoyed sport flying and obtained his private pilots license. Another passion was architecture and spent many years visiting and researching the grand homes of Florida primarily in South Florida. He had a special place in his heart for animals and took in many strays throughout his life.
Memorial Services will be held on September 20 2007 at 11:00am in the Chapel at Baggett and Summers Funeral Home 736 South Beach Street Daytona Beach with Father Richard Grasso officiating.
The family will receive friends and guests at a reception immediately following the service at the Halifax River Yacht Club 331 South Beach Street Daytona Beach. Clayton's wishes that memorial donations be made to either the A.R.N.I. Foundation 126 West International Speedway Boulevard Daytona Beach Florida 32114 or the Halifax Humane Society 2364 West LPGA Boulevard Daytona Beach Florida 32124.
