Clara E. Gonzalez - Clara Gonzalez 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 28, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Born to Narciso and Maria Reyes in Jaguey Grande, Cuba, she immigrated to the U.S. with her husband Carlos in 1955, a decision they both agreed allowed them to live out the "American Dream". Clara had a love for cooking which was evident, and proved that good food was the way to your heart. It was her way of letting you know how much she cared for and loved you. Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Clara, was invited for an authentic Cuban meal or "coffee and". If she was invited anywhere, she would always arrive with a plate of her delicious flan. Atrue family woman, Clara always carried a purse full of pictures to show off her beautiful grandchildren. She loved her role as "Tia Clara' to her many nieces and nephews in both Miami and Cuba, but had a love for all children and was called "Mom" by so many who considered her their second mother. Both Clara and Carlos was parishioners of the Basilica of St. Paul, and as Spanish speaking immigrants, were instrumental in beginning the Spanish speaking masses there. Clara spent her life loving both her family and friends and will forever be remembered for her huge heart and being such a special woman to the lives she touched. Clara was predeceased by her husband Carlos, sisters; Mirtha Diaz and Zoila Reyes and her brother Narciso Reyes. Clara was proud mother to Charley Gonzalez (Joni), and proud Abuela to her grandchildren,Gabby and Charley III all of Deland, Fl. She also leaves behind her brothers; Miguel and Luis Reyes of Miami, Fl. and many relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona on Wednesday May 2 at 2 pm. with calling hours beginning at 12. Entombment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park with reception following. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you make donations in Clara's name to the charity of your choice
