Obituary

Christopher Floyd Phillips, 40, passed away at his home on May 8th, 2025, in Ormond Beach, FL. Born on April 29th, 1985, in Morgantown, WV, Chris was a true son of the Mountain State whose love for life and the outdoors inspired everyone around him.

A 2003 graduate of Morgantown High School, Chris went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Business Communication from West Virginia University in 2009. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout under National Scout under National Scout Master Pat Ryan, embodying the values of leadership and service from a young age.

As an avid mountain biker, Chris raced professionally with Team DEVO and started on the Board of the West Virginia Mountain Bike Association, dedicating himself to trail building and community outreach in the Canaan Valley and beyond.

In 2010, Chris began his career at New York Life, becoming a registered representative with New York Life Insurance and Securities, upholding a proud family tradition as a third-generation agent. His grandfather and father laid the groundwork, and Chris took great pride in building lasting relationships with his clients and achieving Executive Council multiple times with New York Life. Alongside his work in financial services, he managed MJH Development Corporation and served as majority owner of CMBMJ Properties, LLC.

Chris was a devoted collector, particularly of firearms, and cherished every moment he could spend exploring woodlands and ridges, whether on his bike or simply soaking in the serenity of Canaan Valley. His black lab Maya was his faithful companion and was by his side through every adventure. His gentle spirit, generous laughter, and unwavering loyalty left an indelible mark on family and friends alike.

Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents, Anna Lee Floyd, H.G. Floyd, Byron Phillips, and Helen Phillips. He is survived by his mother, Mary Jane Phillips; his father, Bradley Elliot Phillips; and his brother, Timothy Gibson Phillips.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in Ormond Beach, FL. A second Celebration of Life will take place in late August in Davis, WV; details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to The Chris Phillips Foundation.

Over the last few months, Chris had been working on his foundation to support mountain biking, trail maintenance, conservation, and management for Canaan Valley, WV. The web address https://thechrisphillipsfoundation.com/ will be live over the next few weeks.

Chris's boundless enthusiasm, his love of adventure, and his compassionate heart will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew him.
