Chester "Chet" Brown, 76, of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016 at Florida Memorial Medical Center, Daytona Beach. Chet was the former owner/operator of Ormond Fire and Safety.
He was born September 25, 1939 in Berwyn, Pennsylvania to Raymond and Margaret (Broomall) Brown. Upon his graduation from Conestoga High School, Chet went to work for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a surveyor. In 1960, he enlisted into the U.S. Army and served as the head of heavy equipment in the Combat Engineering Division. Once home, Chet returned to the Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation as an Engineering Assistant to the position of Chef Construction Inspector.
Chet then served his community by joining the police force with the Easttown Township Police Department. He served as the chief negotiator of police contracts from 1972 through 1980. In 1971 was awarded the "Policeman of the Year Award" by the Chester County Fraternal Order of Police for his heroism, saving numerous students from a burning building. Chet rose through the ranks, obtaining Sergeant in 1975.
Upon his retirement, Chet and his family relocated to Florida where he served in several security positions with the Kennedy Space Center. He also worked with Wackenhut Services at the Daytona Beach Airport in 1981.
Chet was also very talented in construction, with Rose Bay Inc.; he was a combination, carpenter and concrete foreman. He dappled in advertising as a sales representative with George Young Co. In the early 1980's joined the Ormond Beach Police Dept in the Patrol Division. He left the police department in 1984 and served Ormond Beach as the city's Fire Inspector until 1988. He was a 50 + year member of the Thompson Masonic Lodge # 340, he was a huge Philadelphia Flyers' fan as well as Phillies fan. Most of all Chet was a family man; he enjoyed spending his time with his wife, children and especially his grandchildren.
Chet is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judy Brown, Ormond Beach, his children Christopher Brown, Birmingham AL and Tammy Brown Borden, Ormond Beach, FL brother, Howard Brown , Edgewater, FL , his grandsons, Jacob Chester Borden, Joshua David Borden and Parker George Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Margaret Brown.
A Service of Remembrance will be held Friday, June 17th at 3:30 pm at Lohman Funeral Home; 733 West Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach with Rev. Jerry Webb, Pastor of the Flomich Baptist Church Officiating.
The family will receive friends form one hour prior to services.
