Suman Charlotte H. Charlie Charlotte H. Suman age 62 known as ?Charlie? to her many friends passed away May 9 2005 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born March 17 1943 in Washington D.C. to John and Evelyn Lewis Sr. She retired from the Federal Government in 2003 having worked for the Air Force Navy and Marine Corp during her long and successful career. She met her husband Michael 21 years ago at the Naval Training Equipment Center in Orlando where she worked and Mike was a Navy Lieutenant Commander stationed at the center. Charlie was a loving wife mother grandmother sister and friend to all who knew her. Her children and grandchildren were always her special priority. She became the only female Babe Ruth baseball coach in the state of Rhode Island when her son Eric wanted to play baseball and the league didn?t have a coach. She coached for three years and in her final season the team went undefeated and she was honored to be named coach for the North Kingstown All-Stars. In 1992 when it was time to relax travel and play golf she became Mom to her 15 month old granddaughter Chelsey. In the years since Charlotte?s creative ability and dedication and Chelsey?s God given talent resulted in Chelsey winning many beauty pageants and talent competition awards. Charlie designed and decorated all of Chelsey?s gowns and costumes. Charlie?s costumes always stood out on the stage and are still sought after by the other pageant Moms who couldn?t wait to get Chelsey?s ?hand-me-downs.? She is survived by her husband of 21 years Mike; her parents John and Evelyn Lewis Sr. of Winter Springs FL; her five children: Tony Blackwell Jr. Troy Blackwell Sr. Timothy Blackwell Eric Wirth and Chelsey Lynn Suman; her three stepchildren Jannon Suman Jennifer Milton and Joseph Suman. Jannon spent many hours caring for Charlie during her bonus days. Jennifer?s talented voice with her CD?s provided comfort to us all. She is survived by her brother John Lewis Jr. of Raleigh Durham NC; her sisters Jo Ann McNaughton of Crofton MD and Margaret Fleshman of Deltona FL; her 12 grandchildren and nieces nephews and cousins. She is survived by Aunt Peaky her special guardian angel here on earth and her husband Uncle Duke Aunt Tinky and Aunt Mary Ellen. She is survived by her special friend and dance teacher Terrie England who wore out her cell phone calling every day and her many other friends at Talent Express. She will always be remembered by Norman Humphrey Grandma ?Floyd? Humphrey Gil and Anne Weeks Jean Doug Leonard and everyone associated with Premier Pageants of Richmond VA. Premier Pageants created the Annual Charlie Suman Memorial Talent Award in her honor. She is survived by her new friends at the Hospice of Volusia/Flagler who were there for her final days.
