Charlie Strasser 79 of Ormond Beach FL passed away at his home on Tuesday February 1 2006 surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be Sunday February 5th at 2:00 p.m. at Tomoka Christian Church Ormond Beach with Pastor Joe Putting officiating. His family will receive friends on Saturday February 4th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. Charlie was born on April 16 1926 in Norwich NY. He served in the Army Air Corp then attended Clarkson Tech College in 1948. He then moved to Daytona Beach FL and became a lifeguard. It was there on the beach that he met Helen whom he married one year later. Charlie enjoyed his days as a lifeguard and until recently Charlie faithfully reunited with his fellow retired lifeguards at Billy?s Tap Room to reminisce about their days at the beach. Charlie?s career began as a Postal Worker and it was then that he built his first home. From there Charlie started Strasser Construction in 1956 and celebrated with his family their company?s 50th anniversary this year. Charlie was one of the builders to open Tomoka Oaks Country Club Subdivision and went on to build other major projects for the Root Co. including the Pump House Edwards Warehouse and Shawnee Airline Hanger. He developed and built Gatewood Sub Division and the Civil Air Patrol Building. He will be missed not only by his family but by the many employees of Strasser Construction whom he considered his extended family. Above all Charlie was a family man he loved having his entire family together in Ormond Beach and for many years they often gathered together on the weekends. Charlie will live on forever in the hearts of his family which include his wife of 53 years Helen; two sons Chuck Strasser and daughter in law Gina Scott and daughter in law Sue; his two daughters Connie Strasser and LeeAnn and son in law Bryan Collyer all of Ormond Beach; his 5 grandchildren Faith Destiny Meagan Kevin and Nicole his brother Bernard Strasser and wife Irene of Ormond Beach his sister Janet and husband Harold Purdy of Ithica NY and his many pets.
