Charles Joseph Valorose was born May 23, 1917 in Grenoble, France. He grew up in Ville Matin, a small town in the French Alps, until he came to America in 1929 at the age of 12. He settled with his parents, Thomas Valorose and Carmen Gallina, in Western Massachusetts. As a young man, he was an avid baseball player for the Chester town team. He was a loyal Red Sox fan for his entire life. He married Enis J. Megazzini on October 4, 1941 and remained in Western Massachusetts to work and raise his family in Feeding Hills and Springfield. He moved to St Petersburg, Florida in retirement before settling in Daytona Beach. In the summer of 2013, he and his wife moved into Bishop's Glen Retirement Community. He passed away peacefully and with family on February 1, 2017 at the age of 99.

Charles served as a Buck Sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was assigned to the Flight Line to work on P-49s and P-51s at Seymour Johnson Field in Goldsboro, NC. In December, 1944, he was shipped to Italy where he was assigned to the 308th Fighter Squadron. In August, 1945 he boarded a ship for redeployment to the Pacific but the war ended while the ship was in transit, and he returned to the United States where he was discharged on November 10, 1945. On his return from the war, he began a career as a baker, which skill he transferred to his family, designing and making wedding cakes for family members with his wife, Enis. He worked in various bakeries in the Springfield area before going to work for the U. S. Postal Service from which he retired in 1980. He was retired for 37 years, spending most of that time in Florida which he had loved from his early Army training days in Miami. He lived a long, fruitful and happy life.

Charles and Enis were able to joyously celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary last fall with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Enis, and three children: Antonia (Jack) Theroux, Charlotte Tsoucalas, and Richard (Paula) Valorose. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Todd (Jamie) Theroux, Jonathan (Kate) Theroux, Jennifer (John Scheef) Valorose, Christopher (Priya Maraj) Valorose, Nicholas Tsoucalas, and Stephanie (Hunter) Hutcheson. He also is survived by 7 great grandchildren: Ella, Michael and Sarah Theroux, Kai and Charles Scheef, Ishan Valorose, and Creighton Hutcheson, and other relatives throughout the United States and France.

Services will begin on Tuesday February 7, 2017 with a viewing for family and friends from 9:00-10:30 AM at The Lohman Funeral Home 1201 Dunlawton Ave. Port Orange followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM from Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church 4675 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. Port Orange
