Charles Covington Owen Jr. 76 loving husband devoted father loyal friend and life-long resident of Daytona Beach FL passed away May 17 2010. He was a graduate of Seabreeze High School attended the Presbyterian College in South Carolina for 3 ½ years and was a Master Mason at Halifax Lodge No. 81 in Daytona Beach. As a young man he was First Mate on various local charter fishing boats. He later spent four years serving our country in the US Navy as a torpedoman on the USS Sea Poacher stationed in Key West before being honorably discharged in 1957. At the end of his tour of duty he was invited to serve on the nuclear submarine Skate but returned to work in the family insurance business. Soon thereafter he married his loving wife Nancy to whom he shared a life with for 50 years. Throughout his life he returned to various captain duties including oil rig supply boats in the Gulf of Mexico Bahamas torpedo weapons retrievers and submarine supply vessels the Sun Cruz casino boat and his local charter fishing boat "Viking." When he retired he began to rebuild his home after Hurricane Charley in 2004. Charlie enjoyed fishing and could very often be found involved in home restoration. Those who knew him will remember him most for his wonderful sense of humor his creativity and strength. He will be greatly missed by all who had the opportunity to know him. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Nancy; daughters Catherine and Charlene; sisters Carol Bartholf and Joan Owen and his many cats. A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 29th at 3:00pm at Calvary Baptist Church 210 N. Peninsula Drive Daytona Beach FL.
