Charles E. (Kim) Gannaway II, age 62, of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away suddenly on November 23, 2015.
Kim was born at McDill AFB, Tampa, and grew up in North Augusta, SC, where he began swimming competitively as a child. Kim graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of South Carolina (Columbia) where he met his wife, Des Gutowski, and where he was a member of the USC Gamecocks Swim Team.
During his career, Kim was employed by Fluor Daniel International, MARCOR Environmental, Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Marion County Public Schools. Mid-career, Kim assisted briefly in his father's insurance business in Georgia. Opting for early retirement in 2014, Kim was enjoying life to the fullest with Des and their dogs. He loved woodworking in his shop, swimming, fishing and keeping in touch with his friends. Kim will live on in the hearts of all whose lives he touched with his warmth, generosity, and goodness.
Kim was a member of St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church in Ormond Beach, FL and was a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus.
Kim is cherished and missed by his wife, Des, his parents, Marge and Charles Gannaway, his sister, Susan (Gannaway) Downing and niece, Kelli Downing.
A Memorial Mass, followed by a reception, will be held at St. Brendan's Catholic Church, 1000 Oceanshore Blvd, Ormond Beach, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016, with Fr. Tom Barrett officiating.
