Obituary

Charles Joseph Hughes, affectionately known to family and friends as Joe, was born on December 24, 1943. He left us and went to his forever home on January 20, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Stanislaus Hughes; his mother, Mary Grace Abell Mattingly; his stepfather, Samuel P. Mattingly; and his sister, Beverly Wolford, along with her beloved husband, Jody Wolford

Joe was also preceded in death by his beloved eldest son, Joseph Stanley "Stan" Hughes, and his cherished grandson, Brady Hughes.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Ann Hughes. He leaves behind his loving children, Timothy William Hughes and Julie Hughes Monteith and her husband, Timothy Ray Monteith. Joe was a proud and loving grandfather to Kayla, Bryson, and Tyler Monteith.

He is also survived by Margie's  daughter, Annette Hosch, her spouse David Hosch, and their children Ethan and Sophie, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

Joe is lovingly remembered by his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Ron Sheiner; his niece Kimberley Parker and her husband Kris Parker; and his nephew Chad Abell and Elizabeth Sheiner.

He is also fondly remembered by his nieces, the daughters of his late sister Beverly and Jody Wolford: Debbie, Kathy, Teresa, Madonna (who preceded him in death), Tracy, and Stacie. Joe loved each of them as if they were his own children.

Joe found his greatest joy in time spent with family and friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was known for his generous spirit and remarkable work ethic. A devoted husband and father, Joe lived his life with humility, purpose, and deep faith. He was a faithful member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, where he attended regularly and found great comfort in his faith.

Joe was also blessed with a lifelong friendship of more than sixty years with his dear friend, Frank Larned. Their bond was one of unwavering loyalty, mutual respect, and shared history — a friendship that truly withstood the test of time. Frank's family, including his wife Ruth and son Joseph, were a meaningful part of Joe's extended circle of love and friendship. The connection Joe and Frank shared was something to be admired, and they were a blessing to one another throughout the years.

Joe will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of faith, love, and generosity will continue to live on through his family and the many lives he touched. He will forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Isaiah 33:2

"O Lord, be gracious to us; we long for you.

Be our strength every morning, our salvation in times of distress."
